UNDP supports flood-proof safe houses in Central Vietnam

Up to now, more than 3,250 storm and flood resistant houses have been built in 5 provinces of Thua Thien-Hue, Quang Binh, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai and Thanh Hoa by the Green Climate Fund project funded by the Government of Vietnam and UNDP support entitled “Increasing resilience to the impacts of climate change for vulnerable coastal communities in Viet Nam” and more than 800 other flood and storm resilient homes are being planned. built in 2021.
Safe homes are built with key features to help withstand the effects of strong storms, floods and extreme climate events to protect residents and their property.
Ms. Wiesen emphasized that UNDP will continue its support by focusing on integrated approaches to disaster risk management, including mangrove planting to buffer storms, sea level rise, and increased awareness. community and local awareness on climate change and natural disaster risk in seven coastal provinces.
“UNDP will also assist the General Department of Disaster Prevention and Control and the 5 most severely affected provinces to develop a comprehensive flood risk map to support development planning. By integrating flood risk mitigation measures, it is hoped that the impact of future flooding will be reduced ”, said the UNDP representative.
