Japan cooperates with Vietnam in cancer research
The project, called Atlas, will help develop therapies to treat many rare cancers while providing advanced treatments for people in the countries.
The National Cancer Center of Japan (NCCJ) has just launched a project to cooperate with 5 Southeast Asian countries, including Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines, to develop cancer drugs and other new drugs to treat patients better.
This Atlas project will also help develop therapies to treat many rare cancers and provide advanced treatments for people in these countries.
Research into the genetic structure of cancer uses genetic sequencing technologies to identify DNA changes and help doctors develop the right cancer treatment regimen for each patient. According to the NCCJ, at present, many regional countries in Southeast Asia still lack the health systems necessary to treat the large number of cancer patients resulting from population growth and economic development...
By expanding clinical trials of patients in other countries and sharing related data, the Atlas project will help accelerate therapeutic pharmaceuticals for patients. Besides, Japan will share its experiences in this field through research and training programs.
Head of Research Management Department of NCCJ Hospital, Mr. Kenichi Nakamura, emphasized: "We want to establish a framework for making pharmaceuticals and promoting gene drugs for cancer treatment in Asia, catching up with Europe and America."
